Altmarkt-Galerie Dresden received this year's Urban Land Institute (ULI) Global Award for Excellence in Chicago on Friday (November 8). With its exemplary integration into the surrounding historic and partially landmarked environment, the shopping center stood out from its competition. Altmarkt-Galerie was one of 30 finalists from all over the world which were selected from 180 applicants. The other eleven winners of this year were renowned projects such as HafenCity Hamburg, the Amazon.com Global Headquarters in Seattle, USA, Territoria 3000 in Santiago de Chile, D-Cube City in Seoul, South Korea, or Hysan Place in Hongkong, China.
The ULI-Awards for Excellence is one of the most important international awards of the real estate industry. They recognize the full urban development and construction, not just its architecture or design of a project. The criteria for the awards include leadership and management, the contribution to the community, innovations, public/private partnership, sustainability and environmental protection as well as enhancement, response to societal needs, and financial viability.
The competition is part of the Awards for Excellence program which was established in 1979. It is based on guiding principle of the Urban Land Institute which recognizes and rewards the achievement of excellence in the land use of urban living spaces.
